Chapter 1 Summary: In this first chapter the main character Holden Caulfield writes about his
life from when he left his prep all the way untile he startedto life in a rest home. Keep in mind throughout the whole
story Holden is tellin his story from the rest home. Holden hated school and always had no problem expressing those
fellings. Even though by the end of this story you will see how his feelings have chaged in some situations and remain
the same in others. Also in this chapter Holden visits one his old history teacher(Mr. Spencer) who was very sick.
Chapter 2 Summary: This whole chapter is spent in Mr. Spencers bedroom were they get into a long
talk. In this talk Mr. Spencer discusses how dissapointed he is in Holden. One thing that the wise old man expressed
greatly was that,"Life is a game, boy. Life is a game that one plays according to the rules." I think that Mr.
Spencer was trying to tell Holden that he can do better if he just does what he is supposed to do. After all of this
happened Holden stops the lecture rudely and leaves Spencers room.
Chapter 3 Summary: This chapter is spent in Holdens dorm room on the Ossenburger Hall(a nice dorm
hall at his school Pencey Prep). While in his room reading a book Holden is inturupted by a room mate. His roommate
is an older male by the name of Ackley. This boy has very heavy acne and is very annoying to Holden. Ackley continues
to annoy Holden until the other roomate(Stradlater) enters the room. Ackley does not like Stradlate so he exits the
room.
Chapter 4 Summary: In this chapter Holden goes to the bathroom with Stradlater, because Stradlater
has to get ready for his date. Stadlater goes on a date with a girl named Jane Gallagher who Holden has deep feelings
for but Stradlater does not know. Holden talks about Jane and what she does and why she does it and Stadlater just barely
pays attention because he is uninterested. When Stradlater leaves Ackley comes back into the room and annoys Holden
again by poping his pimple up until its timefor everyone to eat dinner.
